St. Trinians

One of the purpose of St.Trinains trailer is to represent and promote the film to a target audience of 13-17 year old girls. This is shown by the pink background used to promote the title and cast/ characters which star within the film, they have used this due to the female appearance throughout the film and how the story is based on an all girl school. The colour pink has also been used from the paintballs thrown at the enemies coach. From this event taking place you are able to see that the girls are very dominate and feisty, although they can be shown very strong and rough they take pride in their appearance by wearing make-up and nicely groomed hair, this works well with their uniform as it is very unique and fashionable which makes the target audience idolise them and wishing to go to a school like St. Trinians. Another purpose of the film is its genre which is comedy, this is shown through what the girls say e.g. "Your only supposed to blow the bloody door off." this suggest elements of comedy and it is also shown through the pranks that the girls pull on the new girl such as turning the water to cold whilst she is in the shower and leaving her without a towel or clothes so running back to the dorm  yet along the way she runs into a door, yet near the end they convert her into one of them.

The narrative of the film trailer represents how St. trinians goes from being "The worst school in the country" whilst in debt with the bank which makes them to nearby closing down. Throughout the trailer it shows how the students and teachers work together creating a variety of ideas in which  they are able to keep the school from closing but also are able to get money to help them survive.

Within the film trailer it includes a variety of stars such as:

  • Russell Brand- who plays the handy man of dispatching the produced gifts of which the girls have made, but also he helps to come up with a plan to help the school survive.
  • Colin Firth- who plays the prime minister and is wanting to change the school around so it can uphold a good reputation.
  • Rupert Everett- Who plays the role of the new girls dad and also the role of the headmistress.
  • Stephen Fry- Who plays the part of the t.v. host named quiz master in the school challenge.
  • Gemma Arterton- who plays the role of head girl and comes up with the idea of stealing the famous picture.

In the film trailer there is a variety of cuts, splits scenes, blackouts and pyrotechnics used to show a various clips/ scenes from the film to interest the target audience. Using a variety of editing techniques helps give the film trailer an extra thrill and make the audience question what shall happen next? by including these techniques it will make the target audience want to go and see the film in cinema.

There is also a various amount of camera angles used in the film trailer such as an establishing shot to show where the school is but also the establishing shot is used when they reach London, this is used to show where they are. Point of view shot is used when the girls are looking outside the window to watch the explosion, the point of view shot also helps to include the audience and create a feeling of what it would be like if they were actually there. The use of a close up in the film is used to show expression on each characters face it could either be happy, sad or show fear. they also use a close up shot to show the famous picture of which they steal. They have included a long shot within the film trailer, this is used to show the main characters of school girls when walking into the museum, this helps create a climax and make the audience feel like they want to be them.

There is eight titles included throughout the film trailer, they are represented by using a pink background with black writing this is again to link back to the target audience but also to the girl dominance. The last title is a billing block which is appeared on a pink background with white writing and produced at the end of the film trailer.

The non- diegetic music creates a climax throughout the trailer, this is from the different music used such as at the beginning it is used slowly but creepy to create an atmosphere in which that would link well to the opening of the film on how St. Trinians is the worst school in the country. When there are elements of comedy throughout the film the music changes to a more upbeat vibe this element shows how the film is a comedy and is a comedy genre. The non- diegetic music is still played throughout but made quieter than the dialogue used but links well to show the elements of fun which they have throughout the film. The diegetic music used such as the explosion makes it more realistic and creates a felling that you are there, such as when the new girl hits her head on the door you hear her slip and hit the door.

The number of settings shown in St.Trinians film trailer is twenty eight different locations. By using this many it makes the film look more interesting and adventurous then filming in one specific locations.

Throughout the film trailer of St.Trinians there is a variety of characters mostly being the young school girls including famous people but they have also used exception of four men who are famous, this is used to help make people want to see the film even more.

The film trailer includes a hundred and thirteen cuts, they are used to create more tension with in the film and keep the audience hooked, some cuts are faster then other which link in with the non-diegetic music which creates a better climax throughout.
